About 2 months ago my friend Lori (THE Bargain Shopper Lady) asked me to write about how to create an account on Bloglines and a bit on how to use it. Well, I started an account – easy enough. But, managing it was not. Because this site uses frames it causes MAJOR problems for the user. I clicked on a link to take me back to my “home” page and the left column just duplicated and this could have gone on over and over again. VERY frustrating. If you are designing a web site – PLEASE don’t use frames. I implore you again, please stay away from frames — you will save your readers and yourself many headaches.
So, determined to find a way to manage my new blog addiction (LOL) I searched for something else. And, I must say – this one looks promising. It’s a site called Newsgator and I am using FeedDemon. I downloaded this free desktop version and the set up could not have been easier. I created an account and started it up in about 2 minutes. If I could have remembered my username and password from Bloglines it would have uploaded my feeds from there too! I added my blog and Lori’s just by knowing the website address. With Bloglines I had to have the correct address for feeds and for comments and had to add them both for each site. I’m sure many people LOVE Bloglines and that it works well for them, but I think NewsGator’s product is superior.
By signing up through the Feed Demon application I can also logon to the online tool with the same username and password, no matter where I am – and all my feeds are there. Pretty cool, huh?
Not sold yet, well, here’s a screen shot….

Very cool! I may have to post about this! Will it send me an email to notify me when someone posts?
You can choose to have a desktop alert when any or all of your blogs change.
Message boards have always been my addiction of choice. This is the first weblog where I have participated, and I can clearly see the appeal.
I just finished reading a chapter on hosting in my “Build your own website…” beginner’s guide. The book explains that frames are one of the downsides of using a web-forwarding service. If you get hosting from “freewebsitesforall” you could end up with an ugly email address like : http://www.freewebsitesforall/blah-blah-blah/yourwebsitename.com – not very professional. Apparently you can sign up for a domain name elsewhere (www.yourwebsite.com), and have traffic forwarded to your website. When you do this you end up with a frame around your website (often an ugly title bar advertising the name of the host website rather than your website – also not very professional…) You also have the problems navigating the page that out Techie Tutor mentioned.
I am not pretending to know anything. I am a newbie, myself and as I said I just read ithis. The point is, you get what you pay for, and if it’s free, you’re paying for it somewhere.
Mmm..I’ll look into this.
Thank you very much!!
